Preamble

AFRICE is a Pan-African educational movement with the sole purpose of promoting research in Comparative Education and other educational disciplines by African scholars. The 1st AFRICE conference was held in February 2013 at the University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon. The conference brought together about 100 scholars from Africa, Europe, USA and Taiwan for a two day conference. A total of about 35 papers were presented and debated upon. This was a great insight to the African scholars and especially students from University of Yaoundé I, just to mention a few. The University of Nairobi was nominated to host the 2nd AFRICE conference in June 2015. This conference will provide scholars from across Africa and other parts of the world with a further opportunity to interact among themselves and the University of Nairobi fraternity, exchange of ideas and explore possible milestones for the future collaborative development of both AFRICE and WCCES with the University of Nairobi being major contributors.

The 2nd AFRICE International Conference theme is: “Education in Africa: Reflections Beyond 2015 MDGs-Comparative Perspectives”. This is light of the fact that the world educational agenda in the last decade was geared toward the attainment of, Education for All (EFA) as well the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the year 2015. As scholars gather for this conference it will be interesting to share ideas on Education in Africa beyond the 2015 global education and development agenda. The big question we are asking is; how is education in Africa being impacted by the global agenda and consequently how is education in Africa responding and contributing towards the global agenda? As we move on from the MDGs in the post 2015 global agenda and we embrace the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we continue to ask, how will education in Africa be impacted and what will be its contribution towards attaining of the SDGs by 2030? These and other pertinent educational issues will form the basis of academic debate during this conference.

The 2nd AFRICE International Conference has brought together about 200 participants. There are about 75 paper presenters from across the globe including USA, Europe, India, Cameroon, Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya. The organizing team therefore welcomes each participant to this conference and trust that every individual will make the best out of the conference interactions.
